How Can I Find Cheap Utah Car Insurance

By Steve Turner

If you at fault in an accident, car insurance protects you from the costs of the property damages caused for the other people, as well as the medical bills for which you may be responsible. The price of Utah car insurance varies greatly depending on the coverage you want and the car that you drive. If you do your homework you can get cheap Utah car insurance.

Comprehensive and Liability are the two main types of insurance that you can buy. Comprehensive insurance not only covers the expenses you may legally incur while at fault in an accident, but it also covers the damages on your car. Liability only covers the cost of the person you wreck in to. Because of this main different, liability is always a lot cheaper.

After deciding whether or not you want your own car covered in an accident, you need to decide on the amount of coverage is best for you. In the state of Utah, the minimum requirement is $25,000/$50,000 $10,000. This means that if you get in an accident, they will pay for the medical bills of each person in the other car up to $25,000 but will not pay more than $50,000 total. The $10,000 is the amount of property damage they will cover.

Although this is the minimum required, and definitely the cheapest, it is wise to get higher coverages so you aren't liable in the case of a catastrophic accident. If you have $10,000 coverage for property, and you run in to a $50,000 BMW, you will be required to pay for the difference out of pocket. Even though it raises your premiums to increase your coverage, it can be worth it.

In deciding the amount of the premium, the companies factor in a number of different discounts to reward drivers for being responsible. The biggest discount given is usually for being a safe driver. If your driving record is clean, you will pay a lot less for your insurance. These companies also give discounts for being in the military, being a good student, and for things as insignificant as having an email address.

When deciding on how much they need to charge you, they factor in the type of car you have. If you are getting comprehensive coverage, it would be much more expensive on a new Lexus than an old Hyundai because in the case of an accident, it would cost more to repair an expensive car than a cheap one. Also if you have a sports car it is usually more expensive because you are at a higher risk of getting in an accident.

As you shop around for low rates, make sure to verify the legitimacy of the company offering the policy. If it sounds to good too be true, it just might be. Make sure you know what type of insurance you need and be willing to spend a little extra to be adequately covered. It may be more expensive now, but it will be worth it in the case of an accident.
